Flowers can bloom when it's too cold to grow
They push through the ice and the salt-crusted snow
They send up their buds and begin to unfurl
Alive in the soil of an unwelcome world
But flowers in winter can't really survive
We know in our hearts they never will thrive
We welcome the joy and ephemeral spring
Then pull up our collars and turn from the wind
I can't win battles that haven't been fought
I can't sing songs I already forgot
And I can't move the planets or make the world spin
All I can do is plant flowers again
